Modern Foreign Languages

At Culverhay School all pupils learn French from Year 7. Some pupils have the opportunity to learn Spanish from Year 8. Spanish is growing in popularity at the school and we hope to offer Spanish to more pupils throughout the school in the future.

Pupils are set according to ability in Year 7.

Pupils may opt for GCSE courses in French or Spanish.  Syllabus name: Edexcel GCSE Spanish(1246)/French.(1226)

The department is equipped with a data projector so that pupils can participate in interactive ICT led activities. Culverhay School benefits especially from this facility since research shows that boys have increased success in Modern Foreign Languages through the use of ICT. We also get all groups into the Computer Room on a regular basis to work on ongoing projects.

Listos is our new, up-to-date Spanish text book which the pupils follow from Key Stage 3 right up to GCSE.

Expo is our new, up-to date French text book, designed according to the National Curriculum Key Stage 3 Strategy.
